Increasing Climate Resilience of Zanzibar with Integrated Marine Management and Sustainable Blue Economy (BLUE-ZAN)

Increasing Climate Resilience of Zanzibar with Integrated Marine Management and Sustainable Blue Economy (BLUE-ZAN) builds on the institutional partnerships and results achieved within the earlier ICI project ‘National Spatial Data Infrastructure for Integrated Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning’ (ZAN-SDI, 2016-2019).

The outcome objective of BLUE-ZAN is to enhance the marine and coastal resources management and protection in Zanzibar through improved capacities to map and monitor the status of said natural environments. Improving marine and coastal resources management and protection is to enhance sustainable Blue Economy.

The impact objective is to increase climate resilience through improved marine and coastal resources management and sustainable Blue Economy, in Zanzibar and eventually in Tanzania.

In addition, the activities and inputs of BLUE-ZAN will contribute to implementation of the Tanzanian Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC), in the sector of Marine and coastal environment, and fisheries. In particular, the project will increase capacities of the government officials in implementing the adaptation measure of strengthening management of coastal and marine resources and monitoring systems.
