CLIWATE – Cooperation in environmental education with Baltic states

CLIWATE-project promotes environmental education between Finland and Baltic states.  The main themes include ways to help citizens limit and adapt to changing climate, practices of sustainable water use, and ways to decrease the issue of environmental littering.

Goal, Objectives and Actions

The Project goal is to raise people’s environmental awareness in target areas. Related to above-mentioned educational themes, the key educational objective is boosting the efficiency and effectiveness of environmental education programme. Offering intercommunication events and supporting people’s networking is an important way to approach this goal. s with target area stakeholders. The Project's key stakeholder groups include, school students and their teachers, other environmental educators, scientific experts, civic organizations and interested citizens.

Through the Project's expanded environmental awareness knowledge base and by facilitating intercommunication between targeted area stakeholders and their existing cooperation networks, the Project supported a number of actions:

  • Producing environmental educational materials in targets area laguages;
  • Organizing workshops, work parties and camps;
  • Holding specialized webinars and workshops for teachers and environmental educators;
  • Campaigns and workshops; and
  • Carrying out a final seminar that included not only a panel discussion informing stakeholders of Project outcomes but also provided a lively networking opportunities.

Background

Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) has long experience in active cooperation in environmental education.
